Intersolar India 2011: The sun rises and shines forth on the development of the Indian solar market

Mumbai, India and Pforzheim/Freiburg, Germany, December 22, 2011 – Intersolar India 2011 was well received by visitors and exhibitors alike as it strengthen its position as India’s largest solar technology exhibition in 2011. A total of 264 exhibitors form 18 countries attended the exhibition at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Mumbai. The amount of companies represents an impressive 84% growth of exhibitors. The event also welcomed 9,314 visitors from 38 countries, representing a 62% growth compared to 2010. The Intersolar India Conference, beginning one day ahead of the exhibition at the Leela Kempinski Hotel in Mumbai, and run until December 15, 2011, continuing at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC) for the final day. More than 100 speakers used the conference as a platform to exchange latest trends and technology in the solar market with 646 solar experts attending the high-level conference.

In light of the current power challenge that India is facing, Intersolar India 2011 brought together the industry experts, consumers, suppliers and global expertise in order to facilitate consensus-based planning for the National Solar Mission. The aim and strategies to assist the Indian Solar market in reaching its ambitious 20GW target was jointly addressed by the various industry experts who presented and by the many solar professionals who attended the various sessions for the rapid development and progress of the Indian solar industry.

Tarun Kapoor, Joint Secretary, Solar Energy at the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) in New Delhi officially opened alongside representatives from the government and industry the third Intersolar India conference and exhibition on December 13, 2011. The various initiatives, research & development aspects by both the government and industry companies were discussed at the conference. Further key speakers present were Sanjay Chakrabarti (Ernst & Young Pvt. Ltd.), Bhat Rajeshwara (Juwi India Renewable Energies Pvt Ltd), Vishal Shah (Deutsche Bank), and Rabindra Satpathy, (Reliance Industries Limited), among others.

The key presentations at the exhibition portion of the conference were focussed on the improvement and functioning of the solar industry in India. These presentations were given by Yogesh Chaudhary, Siemens Limited, India (Balance of Systems); Rajiva K. Srivastava, Su-Kam Power Systems Ltd., India (Project Development)and many more.

The solar industry has an incredible potential in India on account of the abundance of the primary resource – the Sun, which shines in India nearly 300 days per year. Initiatives from local, small-scale entrepreneurs to large industry bodies have also resulted in the encouragement and development of a solar power-oriented thought process within the downstream segment. The Intersolar India 2011 Exhibition and Conference has truly emerged as an innovative & creative platform for the manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, developers and experts within the solar industry to learn and display their innovations and products.
